Damon Eliza Palermo removes his mask

A shift towards ambient music for the Californian producer behind the projects Mi Ami and Magic Touch...

By Abigail Church | Video of the Day | January 16, 2018

The Californian producer decided that his EP Beacon Of Maraicabo would take his real name: Damon Eliza Palermo, the same multi-faceted artist who hides behind the names Mi Ami for his electro rock project and Magic Touch for house "from Detroit". We find a minimalist and raw turning point, following on from his two debut maxis signed respectively with the always-interesting label Vancouver 1080p in 2015 and Ital’s label Lovers Rock in 2017.

Minimalist, yes, but one that makes the result even more "magnificent" - one of the words that remains firmly imprinted in your mind after listening to this subtle and intelligent sound. Certainly one of the more important ambient records to start the year, situated on the border between electronic experimentation and free jazz. Logically, he has signed with the French record label Johnkôôl which brings together some of the best mad scientists of the current electronic scene (DJ Kôôl from the collective SIN~ with Flavien Berger or even James Darle from Salut C’est Cool).
