About Playlist

Rarely in the history of Scottish rock has a band managed to gain a huge success both critical and commercial in such a short time. Franz Ferdinand was founded in 2001 by Alex Kapranos and novice bass player Bob Hardy, quickly joined by Nick McCarthy, a classically trained pianist and double bass player who originally played drums in the band, and then Paul Thomson, a former drummer for the Yummy Fur who felt like playing guitar instead. Eventually, McCarthy and Thomson switched to guitar and drums.

In 2003 the band signed to Domino Records and released the EP “Darts of Pleasure”. Their second single, “Take Me Out”, arrived in early 2004 and propelled them to greater popularity in Europe and laid the groundwork for the band's debut album. Franz Ferdinand's success followed them across the pond; "Take Me Out" became a sizable modern rock hit but above all the beginning of a long story of friendship and rock hits that has never stopped.

Today the band is back with its sixth studio album, “Always Acensding”.
