Exclusive interview with British singer/songwriter Benjamin Clementine ahead of his long-await debut LP - comparisons to Nina Simone are already coming thick and fast...

The voice is deep and serious. Inhabited. Almost martial. Benjamin Clementine is primarily a voice - 'that' striking voice. A dignified body inherited from that of Nina Simone - a legend in music with which some are already comparing the young British 26-year-old. A strong personality manifests behind a firmly controlled piano, making for an impressive debut album (Awarded with a Qobuzissime!) which is due to be released on 12th January. After two attractive EPs, Clementine has finally brought his first LP effort, At Least For Now to our eyes and ears. A tightly orchestrated and yet daring work, especially considering his seamless fusion of musical styles - which cross any and all borders in the blink of an eye. Jazz, soul, folk, blues and pop, At Least For Now isn't picky, preferring to be a stateless (genre-less) LP with a unique value proposition... Even the instrumentation here alternates between the rather 'naked' sound of a simple piano and the powerful transition with string instrument sections. Fans of Maria Callas and even Léo Ferré will adore the dimensions of the album - Benjamin Clementine, like the aforementioned, is also a beautiful storyteller. So let yourself dive into the music and the stories. A star is (really) born here - see the video interview below for more.
