After 14 years of silence, D'Angelo's new album Black Mesisah is finally out. Believe us, it was worth the wait.

D’Angelo remains a mystery. How could such an incredible talent, who shook the world of soul in 1995 with his first album Brown Sugar, and then again with Voodoo in 2000, be satisfied with a career that has been so admittedly… chaotic? Black Messiah, which has just been released several days before Christmas 2014, is only D’Angelo’s third studio album in a musical career spanning 20 years! However, at Qobuz we can confirm that it has been well worth the 14 year wait. Once again his intensely sensual (not to mention sexual) voice has an incredibly unique way of creating an addictive groove. There is clearly something carnal, dirty and real in this soul, which was influenced by Sly Stone and Al Green. Lacking any superfluous flourishes or over-studied sounds, the album is in short a soulful and successful comeback. In addition, Black Messiah was co-produced by Questlove from Roots, and features several incredible guests, including: Q-Tip, the bassist Pino Palladino, the drummer James Gadson and the ex-Parliament/Funkadelic Kendra Foster. © MD/Qobuz
