The self titled debut album from Enemy is awarded our Qobuzissime award...

Right hook, left hook and an uppercut to the jaw! Enemy's first album catches you like this. Behind the name is a young trio composed of pianist Kit Downes, bassist Frans Petter Eldh and drummer James Maddren. Three young musicians from the international jazz scene who have already proved themselves on the solo stage or alongside other stars. The union of their strength is above all the desire to give free rein to their creative impulses and their gluttony for freedom. Produced by Eldh himself, their album is a tsunami of contemporary jazz. A polyrhythmic storm that will delight fans of power trios like The Bad Plus.

With a wide range of influences ranging from Keith Jarrett to Oscar Peterson, Kit Downes plays multicolored improvisations over jaw dropping ones. But the strength of the Brits piano is obviously the ability to stick with the rhythm of Eldh and Maddren, who are at the heart of this jazz nuclear power station. But Enemy is not exclusively synonymous with power and speed. Because when the trio approaches ballads, they create an equally captivating narrative force. In conclusion, a much more friendly Enemy than what may seem…
