With fifteen albums to his name, Ed Motta can claim to be a rather productive musician (no?). But after forty years, the Brazilian star is unfortunately still a well kept secret on this side of the Atlantic. Perpetual Gateways is proof that he remains a stylistic and relevant fusion master. The groove is still formidable, from seventies soul to eternal bossa, jazz in the true Californian spirit of his idols. Ed Motta is also supported guests that ooze class on this record, including Patrice Rushen on keyboards, Marvin "Smitty" Smith on drums and Hubert Laws on flute.
