Atlanta-based Christian metal outfit Becoming the Archetype continues to refine its progressive brand of death metal on its third full-length, DICHOTOMY. Becoming the Archetype are distinguishable from their death metal peers by the prominence of keyboards in the instrumentation, the balance of melodic and screamo/hardcore elements, and their concern with matters of faith. DICHOTOMY kicks each of these characteristics up a notch, with no lessening of the group’s ferocious sonic wallop or the complex intensity of its interludes. “Mountain of Souls” and “Artificial Immortality” are among the standout tracks.
