The Cotique label is now part of the Fania empire, so the slicked, professional sound of 1970s New York salsa was somewhat unavoidable. Incredibly, the results are good enough in an album that is quite reminiscent of what made the Salsa y Control album memorable: adaptability to newer horizons. The tunes are quite danceable, especially "No lo Sude," "Nene," "Ando en Aire," and the wonderful "Esclavo Del Son." Pablo Lebrón delivers his vocals with conviction. 1960s fans may digress, but it's worth a listen. Produced by Larry Harlow, with great backup work by Yayo El Indio and Adalberto Santiago.
