Rares sont les ténors autant à l’aise dans l’oratorio, l’opéra, le Lied et la mélodie, la chanson folklorique que la chanson napolitaine – sans oublier le cinéma ! Ce fut pourtant le cas du ténor irlandais John McCormack (1884 – 1945) : propulsé sur la scène italienne dès les années 1905, avec un succès certes modeste – pour des raisons scéniques et non pas musicales ou vocales –, il retourna à Londres pour enfin y être engagé à Covent Garden, après quelques vestes, où il chanta tous les ans de 1907 ...
