Un opéra conçu pour la télévision ? Pour le petit écran ? Par Benjamin Britten ? Noooon ! Mais si, mesdames et messieurs. Owen Wingrave fut créé spécifiquement pour la Bibici, plus connue sous le signe de BBC, en l’an de grâce 1970. Non pas que la tâche fût particulièrement facile ! Britten en parlait comme « un curieux mélange d’excitation, d’ennui et de frustration complète », mais le résultat est plus que somptueux.
