En ces années 50 à 60, Alfred Deller et ses acolytes – Gustav Leonhardt, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Michael Tippett, Neville Marriner encore au violon, George Malcolm au clavecin, Robert Tear, Helen Watts, Philip Jones à la trompette et tant d’autres – s’amusaient à défricher le monde encore vierge de la « musique ancienne jouée selon les principes de l’époque ». Et encore… on explorait, on essayait, on tentait, mais force est de constater que l’extraordinaire contreténor de Deller a su inspirer toute une génération de musiciens de l’authentique.
    Ce second volume de Deller/Vanguard nous permet de le retrouver, en particulier, dans l’un des plus beaux opéras qui soient, Didon et Enee (où il ne chante pas, mais dirige seulement), ainsi que dans la sublime Ode à sainte Cécile (oui, oui, il y chante bel et bien), et bien d’autres œuvres en tout genre, de la chanson paillarde au moment le plus recueilli, en passant par le comique de Don Quichotte ou le fabuleux de The Fairy Queen. Certes, en ce temps-là, le clavecin de Leonhardt sonnait de manière assez… curieuse, mais l’exquise musicalité de Deller et de ses collègues chanteurs efface immédiatement ces petites choses. En plus de quoi, l’auditeur pourra se délecter du son extraordinaire, exemplaire, inégalable, des magiciens de Vanguard voici un demi-siècle ; ainsi que, sur un CD-rom en bonus, de tous les textes et commentaires des 33-tours d’origine.

pbonis il y a environ 1 an

à l'heure où les contre ténors redeviennent à la mode, où Jarrousky est partout, on ne saurait trop recommander l'écoute du plus grand d'entre eux, qui fut également un grand musicien et chef d'orchestre, pavant la voie d'un trevor Pinnock et de sonincomparable english concert (plus qu' harnoncourt je trouve).
