On ne change pas (Deluxe Version)

Céline Dion

French Music - Released September 30, 2005 | Epic

No doubt a companion piece to 1999's All the Way: A Decade of Song, On Ne Change Pas is a two-disc compendium of the other, mildly overlooked phase of Celine Dion's career: her performances sung entirely in her native tongue of Québecois French. While she soared up charts all over the globe with her hits sung in English, she also amassed quite a back catalog of hits ranging from dance-pop-friendly numbers to her familiar ground of passionate, melodramatic ballads. For those unfamiliar with this portion of her career (or for those who don't speak French), getting past the roadblock of not being able to understand the subject material will lead to a greater, more holistic appreciation of the depth and prolific output of her career in such a short span. At two discs, it's also a bit much Dion for anyone to swallow in one sitting, but on the plus side there are also a few new tracks, including her duet with Il Divo, "I Believe in You."© Rob Theakston /TiVo

Following their Ali Dragon and Tarmac side projects, A Plus Tard Crocodile is the first album in five years from the reunited French quartet Louise Attaque. Recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York and produced by Mark Plati (Robbie Williams), the 2005 follow-up to Comme On a Dit adds reggae and electronica influences to their more familiar folk-pop sound and includes the single "Depuis Toujours."© Jon O'Brien /TiVo

Ancora

Il Divo

Pop/Rock - Released November 6, 2005 | Syco Music UK

Unbearably handsome opera-pop quartet Il Divo deliver another amorous collection of European housecleaning ballads with Ancora, an album so riddled with Cupid's arrows that it requires its own storage unit. Once again, David Miller, Sébastien Izambard, Urs Buhler, and Carlos Marin bring the love in Spanish, English, and Italian, emoting over classical and opera standards, as well as some notable contemporary compositions. They fawn over Celine Dion -- who can barely contain her own affections -- on "Isabel," and make Mariah Carey's "Hero" sound like the rolling of credits over a Jerry Bruckheimer action/tragedy blockbuster, all the while maintaining the perfect pitch and impeccable showmanship that are their stock-in-trade. Fans who flocked to Il Divo's self-titled debut and 2005 Christmas Collection need no reassurances that their boys are in top form, as a recent appearance on Oprah brought the quartet into the homes of millions of potential converts, but in this age of manufactured goods over artisan rusticity, it's hard not to look at Ancora as the classical crossover equivalent of a bistro-style TV dinner.© James Christopher Monger /TiVo

L'Homme Du Monde

Arthur H

French Music - Released January 1, 2008 | Universal Music Division Label Panthéon

Distinctions Victoire de la musique
Following his previous star-studded Adieu Tristesse, 2008 follow-up L'Homme du Monde is a much more personal effort from Parisian singer/pianist Arthur H. Featuring 13 self-penned tracks sung in both English and French, the Jean Massicotte-produced album eschews H's usual piano-led ambient jazz for a more energetic, guitar-based sound. With lyrics inspired by the birth of his son a year previouslyn and his relationship with his own father, Jacques Higelin, it also includes the single "Dancing with Madonna."© Jon O'Brien /TiVo
