FABRICLIVE 93: Daphni

Various Artists

Dance - Released July 21, 2017 | Fabric Records

On the electro scene, Dan Snaith (a.k.a. Caribou) is an artist apart. Caribou’s music is often refined, groovy to the bone, and never complacent. Even when he's making chart-topping material, the Canadian producer never tries to reinvent himself, but rather aims to perfect his art. His basslines are supple, his experiments always hit the mark (one is reminded sometimes of the late Arthur Russell), his passion for the sounds of the 80s is never excessive and his indie dancefloor vision is always at the heart of his output. It's under the alias "Daphni" that he created his legendary Fabric series. He likes to sign his most instinctive, most direct and least cerebral works as Daphni. Shackleton, Omar S. and Ricardo Villalobos made similar moves before him, and the works that make up this mix are unique. A well-known figure at the London club where he has performed many times (sometimes even performing with Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet), Dan Snaith is deploying the whole vast palette of his genius. In his sequences, his feints and double backs, he presents the audience with an astounding suppleness. All you can do is let yourself be carried away by this dancefloor sculptor, this snake charmer of all manner of grooves and beats. Powerful © MZ/Qobuz
