Leave Home

Ramones

Punk / New Wave - Released July 21, 2017 | Rhino - Warner Records

Hi-Res Distinctions Pitchfork: Best New Reissue
The years go by and the legacy left by the Ramones still puts down more and more roots in the great history of the pop music of the twentieth century. The false brothers from Queens have actually never taken their dirty and used Converse elsewhere than down the beaten path of a certain rock’n’roll tradition going from surf music to girl groups. With stupidity as philosophy, teenage insouciance as credo, supersonic guitars as weapons of mass destruction, their albums—binary in their form, really enjoyable in their content—give birth to hymns of bubble-gum pop on amphetamines that are a lot more serious than they seem. Just like this Leave Home, their second studio album released in January 1977, only nine months after their first one! A good thumb in the nose of the rock scene, with, in the role of the icing on the cake, classics like I Remember and, above all, Pinhead, from which comes their famous battle cry: Gabba Gabba Hey! In 80 titles splits on 3 CDs, this generous deluxe remastered edition celebrates the fortieth birthday of this masterpiece that couldn’t have been more influential, overloaded with demos, B sides, remixes and live titles recorded in 1977 at the CBGB, the New-York punk mecca. In short, our verdict is in: gabba gabba hey! © MZ

It's Alive

Ramones

Punk / New Wave - Released September 27, 2019 | Rhino - Warner Records

Hi-Res
A rock’n’roll tsunami! On stage, the Ramones never questioned themselves, shooting at everything that moved just to remind everyone of their unique style; one that was anchored in traditional rock’n’roll yet incorporated surf music and punk. With foolishness as their philosophy, teenage carelessness as their credo, supersonic guitars as their weapon of mass destruction, this profession of faith - binary in form and playful in content - gave birth to amphetamine-fuelled hymns of bubble-gum pop such as Blitzkrieg Bop, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue and Judy Is A Punk. Recorded in 1977 at London’s Rainbow Theatre on New Year’s Eve, It’s Alive includes these hits and many others, going at 200 mph through their first three albums: Ramones (1976), Leave Home (1977) and Rocket to Russia (1977). The gang from Forest Hills in Queens pack in 28 tracks in less than an hour! To celebrate the fortieth anniversary of this live anthology from 1979, the Deluxe Edition proposes the original remastered album alongside a series of tracks recorded at other concerts during the same English tour in December 1977: the Top Rank in Birmingham on 28 th , Victoria Hall in Stoke-On-Trent on 29 th and the Friars in Aylesbury on 30 th . Without the frills of the studio versions (not that there were many in the first place), all the songs on It's Alive tap into that initial fury, which comes across as even more raw and effective. This 40 th Anniversary Deluxe Edition is supervised by Ed Stasium, the producer and sound engineer of the original album. © Marc Zisman/Qobuz

Metal Commando

Primal Fear

Metal - Released July 24, 2020 | Atomic Fire

This 13th studio album from the German speed/power metal sextet is the follow-up to 2018's Apocalypse and sees them return to Nuclear Blast after 15 years with Frontiers Records. Here they tackle the usual range of controversial subjects via their super-tight riffing, melodic triple-guitar attack, and screeching vocals. Produced by bassist Mat Sinner and mixed by long-term collaborator Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Evergrey, Heaven Shall Burn), it includes the singles "Along Came the Devil" and "Crucify Me."© John D. Insatiable. The prolific Logic is back with a fifth album. In 2018, Bobby released two critically acclaimed albums: YSIV and Bobby Tarantino. Still working with Def Jam and his faithful producer 6ix, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind confidently flexes its muscles. Eminem is invited along for the first time on Homicide. Ominous organs, and a passage that pays homage to Jay-Z, are combined with a technical display from the Maryland rapper whose flow is ultrafast, precise and of a beat that works well with the rhythm. All is accompanied by a lyrical prowess that brings the words to the forefront (“I don’t want to fuckin’ listen to you spit your rap someone else wrote”) making it very Slim Shady. The Maryland rapper continues to cover topics of cinema culture, his alter egos, and his criticisms of social media (Clickbait, Icy, Still Ballin, Cocaine) while also dropping statements on the cutting genius of Kanye West (“I ain’t bipolar Kanye make me wish I was cause that level of genius the meanest.”) on Wannabe. With Wiz Khalifa, Gucci Mane and even his father on BOBBY, logic wracks up several great collaborations and disses Charlamagne tha God (of the radio show The Breakfast Club) on Clickbait. Some may say that its spotless but bland and predictable, others may state that he is becoming one of the most promising rappers on the scene. One thing is sure, he has never been this good. © Charlotte Saintoin/Qobuz
