The man who had just been killed by a cancer he had been fighting for 18 months was not a "rock legend" like the others. The various fashion and musical styles through the decades have always given Bowie the status of a unique innovator, a singular artist who succeeded in perpetually reinventing himself, and questioning himself as well...

From glam rock to new wave, funk to soul, disco to electro, David Bowie embraced every genre; sometimes even ahead of the game. From Major Tom to Ziggy Stardust, from Aladdin Sane to Thin White Duke, he invented and reinvented himself, metamorphosed and exhibited his body as a show. A body that he has taken to the four corners of the world, from London to New York to Berlin.

A geographical, physical, intellectual, dense and quite fascinating itinerary that has made Bowie an icon of the world of modern culture and a pioneer of pop playing on a self-proclaimed androgyny. And five years after his death, his art is far from having ceased to influence the younger generations...
