Rebecca Loebe

Although she first earned national attention in 2011 as a contestant on The Voice, Austin's Rebecca Loebe was already a seasoned singer, songwriter, and audio engineer with two albums of warm, heartfelt Americana to her credit and a win at the Kerrville Music Festival's acclaimed songwriting competition. With her breezy but powerful vocals and finely crafted mix of folk, jazz, pop, and blues, Loebe parlayed her newfound success into tours both national and abroad, as well as further albums like 2017's Blink and 2019's Give Up Your Ghosts. Born in Arlington, Virginia but raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Loebe's musical career began at a young age; she started playing guitar at age 11 and wrote her first songs not long after. By her sophomore year of high school she was playing open-mike nights at Eddie's Attic, a famed venue in nearby Decatur. After graduating at 16, she studied voice, production, and audio engineering at Boston's Berklee College of Music, then spent some time working at a local studio where in her off hours she recorded the demos that would eventually constitute her 2004 debut, Hey, It's a Lonely World. Basing herself back in Atlanta, she began touring, doing freelance audio, and in 2009 was one of the winners of the prestigious Grassy Hill New Folk Songwriting Competition at the Kerrville Music Festival in Texas. Along the way she issued a 2007 EP called The Brooklyn Series and her 2010 full-length follow-up, Mystery Prize which fared well on Americana radio. After moving to Austin, Texas in 2011, Loebe issued an EP-length B-sides collection called Bees & Zombies and in the spring of that year received an invite to audition for the debut season of NBC's The Voice. Her dreamy rendition of Nirvana's "Come as You Are" earned her a spot on the show and even charted as a single, ending up on the show's compilation, The Voice: Season 1 Highlights. With her profile raised from appearing on national television, she worked with producer Matt the Electrician and released her third album, Circus Heart, which arrived in 2012 via the Black Wolf Records label. Over the next two years, she spent a considerable amount of time on the road, touring the U.S. with folk singer, Ellis Paul, and making international appearances in Europe and Japan. Her next album, 2017's Blink, was a particularly organic affair with a stripped-down live feel. Loebe returned two years later with Give Up Your Ghosts, her first for the Austin-based Blue Corn Music label.
