Gun Outfit

Led by guitarists/vocalists Dylan Sharp and Caroline Keith, Gun Outfit began their career playing a sort of amalgam of '80s post-punk and fuzzy lo-fi guitar rock that fell somewhere between the early catalogs of SST Records (Hüsker Dü, Dinosaur Jr.) and K Records (Beat Happening). They formed in 2007 in Olympia, Washington, and originally toured as a trio with drummer Reuben Storey (no bassist), releasing their debut EP in 2008 on L.A. indie label Post Present Medium. Their first full-length, Dim Light, followed a year later, and their dueling boy/girl vocals and noisy textures drew comparisons to early Sonic Youth. By the time they had released their third LP, 2012's Hard Coming Down, a more pastoral approach with undercurrents of folk, country, and psych began to emerge in their sound. That same year, they left the Pacific Northwest and relocated to Los Angeles, adding bassist Adam Payne along the way. Signing with North Carolina indie Paradise of Bachelors, Gun Outfit released their most understated record yet, 2015's Dream All Over. It was followed a mere five months later by the five-song EP Two Way Player. Released in October 2017, Gun Outfit's fourth long-player, Out of Range, was recorded with Henry Barnes (Amps for Christ/Man Is the Bastard), and expanded on their dreamy desert psych approach.
