Dover Quartet

The Dover Quartet made news when it won all three special prizes as well as the top prize at the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition. Soon after, the quartet was being reviewed and interviewed by mainstream media such as The Wall Street Journal and NPR in addition to music-centric publications like Musical America and The Strad magazines. It is very consistently complimented for its homogeneous sound and insightful interpretations. The quartet was formed in 2008 at the Curtis Institute, where its members -- Joel Link and Bryan Lee, violins; Melina Pajaro-van de Stadt, viola; Camden Shaw, cello -- were students. The quartet approaches music with an eye for details, whether it's how the instruments' sounds blend or how they shape a particular phrase. It has been mentored by several leading quartet musicians, including Shmuel Ashkenasi, Peter Wiley, Arnold Steinhardt, and Michael Tree. It has performed in recital and at festivals across North America and in Europe, and is active in community outreach projects. The quartet has held many residencies, including at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music, the Kennedy Center, and was the first Penelope P. Watkins Ensemble in Residence at the Curtis Institute. The Dover Quartet began recording after it's Banff success with the album Tribute: Dover Quartet Plays Mozart in 2016, and Voices of Defiance in 2017. It has recorded for the Azica, Signum Classics, Delos, and Cedille labels. On the latter, the quartet issued the first volume of a complete cycle of Beethoven's quartets in 2020.
