Michael Kiwanuka

Thanks to the brilliant Home Again, released in 2012, Michael Kiwanuka has become one of modern soul music's overnight stars. When he was only 25 years old, the young Brit was already being compared to Bill Withers, Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye, which is hardly bad for a debut! On his second album, Love & Hate, which is currently lighting up the summer of 2016, the Londoner has gone for a rockier sound, while retaining his soulful roots. Produced by Danger Mouse, the record includes ambitious compositions on a grand scale, like the first track, Cold Little Heart, which lasts 10 minutes, and makes unexpected - yet welcome - references to David Gilmour from Pink Floyd. But, inevitably, Kiwanuka is as brilliant as always in his unstoppable choruses, that propel the listener forward and in, to his story, his voice, and his soul. All in all, Kiwanuka has created a uniquely rare and great record in Love & Hate, following in the footsteps of the greats.
