Things have really begun to snowball for Butterz since its inception back in 2007, with the record label quickly becoming a reference point in the grime scene. The London-based independent, founded by Elijah & Skilliam , can afford to be celebrate with the release of the 75th compilation in the FabricLive series, edited by famed London nightclub Fabric. Elijah & Skilliam have become true ambassadors of the musical genre, which combines UK garage, drum & bass, hip-hop and dancehall to devastating effect. Prior to this, the duo transfixed fans of grime over the airwaves with their popular show on London’s Rinse FM, which often placed greater emphasis on the producers themselves than the MCs… In this particular compilation, with less than a third of titles using 140bpm – the usual grime tempo – Elijah & Skilliam still manage to deliver without diluting their identity or sound. In short, they’ve delivered a mix that packs a punch without pretension: our personal favourites include Swindle & Silkie’s Twinkle and Darq E Freaker’s 666 Sauna.
