For their eleventh album, couple Karen and Don Peris are once again shining with the kind of folk pop filled with lyrical sounds that made their Innocence Mission so unique.

Sun On The Square was mixed and recorded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in a rather family atmosphere as their two children, Anna and Drew, play the alto and violin on a few tracks. The album cover is also Karen’s work, and the duo, accompanied by their bassist Mike Bitts, create a sweet melancholic and charming atmosphere, in which poetry and lyricism are king.

The album starts off slowly, like a sunrise, gradually gaining more and more nuances. Records From Your Room lets Karen Peris’ delicate, melodious voice emerge over a few notes on the acoustic guitar that undulate and draw up a dance, just like on Green Bus. The duo depicts an authentic world, evoking nature, birds, a telluric music rising towards the sky.

At times, the process repeats itself in the shape of a waltz, like on Shadow of the Pines, in which the strings are accompanied by a piano and the colours of an accordion. Don Peris is more discreet when it comes to singing, but he fits in magnificently with his wife’s vocals and provides a second layer of sweetness to Look Out from Your Window. A touching, sincere and soothing album.
