Jazz singer: a label, a trademark. More than anything, it's sprawling blanket term that encompasses all kinds of clichés: good-looking on the outside, chewed-up on the inside; dimly lit, smoke-filled bars, serenading broken hearts all night long. Chris Connor was often overshadowed by these preconceptions. The American singer, who died of cancer in the summer of 2009 at the age of 80, now only lives on in the memories and hearts of those who were lucky enough to hear her beautiful voice, a unique blend of opulent beauty and gritty edginess. Luckily for us, she left behind plenty of recordings to preserve her memory - or to allow new generations of singers to (re)discover one of the most accomplished jazz singers of all time...
