The ultimate element of a sound reproduction system, the speaker, after having integrated its amplification, has sometimes been equipped, for a while now, with a true small preamplifier with source selection—external sources, like a turntable or a CD player, or internal sources, like a aptX Bluetooth receiver. This is what this new Triangle Elara LN05A offers, among other things.

The small digital amplifiers have established themselves in the world of Hi-Fi, thanks to the quality of their sound restitution combined with vivacity and power quite belied by their compactness, a feat viewed with some envy by analog models whose dimensions and prices are far higher. Some of them even triggered a good number of online articles, like this AD18 model from the Chinese brand S.M.S.L.

There are many ways to use a DAC: through a USB, S/PDIF, or Bluetooth connection—preferably aptX to get the closest to CD-quality— or via Ethernet with a network player, or even through some less common connections. The new iFi Audio nano iOne DAC offers the first three possibilities, with an excellent sound quality and a great ease of use.

Let’s talk about another cheap little DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) which uses stripped-down high-quality electronics, but offers great sound reproduction—almost identical to the recorded signal according to us—thanks to digital-friendly native playback. Let’s talk about the FiiO K1.

Yes, this Audio-gd Master 7 is truly a fantastic DAC. From the size of the device right down to the choice of using an R2R converter (something that has largely been replaced by One Bit technology), as well as thinking of integrating a transistor system. In the end, this device has the kind of stratospheric sound quality that merits a Qobuzism award.

The iFi Audio micro iDAC2, as the name suggests, is an evolution of the brand's iDAC model. But while its name has changed little, the electronics are no longer the same; the iDAC2 can decode PCM audio at a sampling frequency of up to 384kHz, as well as the DSD64 and DSD128. The USB input is now the USB 3.0 standard, as well as having a coaxial S/PDIF output. Drop the mic... the iDAC2 is the perfect Qobuzism.

Another new Chinese audio brand makes their name with the Serenade DSD DAC, compatible with files up to 24-Bit / 384 kHz (DXD) and DSD64, 12, 256 and 512 (!). On top of that, it really bears its name well since its sound quality is indeed serene.
