Orgy
An industrial and glam-shaped outlier in a sea of nu metal upstarts, Orgy exploded onto the scene in 1994 and are known best for their stomping 1998 cover of New Order's "Blue Monday." Fusing electronic rock with industrial rock and metal, the band – formed in Los Angeles (California) by vocalist Jay Gordon and guitarists Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck, with bassist Paige Haley, and drummer Bobby Hewitt completing the lineup – dropped their debut studio album, Candyass, in 1998. Featuring Orgy's first single "Stitches," and "Revival" with Korn's Jonathan David – who signed Orgy to his Elementree Records – along with "Blue Monday," the album peaked at Number 32 on the US Billboard 200 and went platinum in the US. A second album – the science fiction-themed Vapor Transmission – followed in 2000. In 2001, Orgy released "Faces" for the Zoolander soundtrack and third album Punk Statik Paranoia came in 2004 via Gordon's own independent record label, D1 Music. The LP embodied a more uncompromising sound that occasionally veered off into screaming territory. Orgy went on hiatus for the remainder of the 2000s, with Shuck and Derakh announcing their departure from the band following a feud in 2010. In 2012, they teased the arrival of new material with the 30-second demo of a new song, "Grime of the Century," and embarked on a live tour the following year. New single “WIDE AWAKE AND DEAD” reared its head in 2014 and in 2015, Orgy released their first collection of new music in 11 years, the Talk Sick EP. Orgy's new single "Army to Your Party," featuring Crichy Crich, was released in 2020.
