Traviezoz de la Zierra

Traviezoz de la Zierra are an alternative corrido quartet known for their dark narcocorridos. Accordionist Efren Noriz and bajo sexto (six-string bass) player Adolfo Cordero left Los Traviezoz de Choix and formed the new band in the Sonoran desert town of Nogales with former Brillantes de Sinaloa members Adrian Garcia (guitar) and Victor Vicente Pérez Coyantes aka El Kompa Chente (vocalist/composer). The group's name reflects half the members' first band and the word "Zierra" was added to reflect the sierreño tradition of Sonora, which differentiated them from other corrido acts. Though instrumentally and vocally gifted, the quartet's first few years were spent playing covers and traditional songs at parties, at weddings, and in small clubs, becoming frustrated with their lack of success. Attempting to get different results, the band began writing original material and trying it out at gigs. They issued a couple of independent offerings before getting their first payoff: a deal with Sony's Del Records, who issued Así Es Mi Cartel in 2013. The band toured hard and garnered radio play regionally and in Southern California. They immediately followed up Así Es Mi Cartel with a second full-length, Plan B, that same year. The twist was in showing the romantic side of Traviezoz de la Zierra alongside their harder narcocorridos, and widening their appeal. The next few years became a whirlwind of touring throughout Mexico, Texas, Arizona, and Southern California. The band reentered the studio in late 2014. They emerged with the 15-song A Ver Que Opinan, which wove together both sides of Traviezoz de la Sierra's musical personality and immediately garnered widespread airplay.
