Mattea Musso

Mezzo-soprano Mattea Musso's specialty is vocal music of the Renaissance and Baroque eras, as well as Mediterranean folk music. Musso was educated at Siena's Conservatorio di Musica "Rinaldo Franci," where she studied piano performance, and at Florence's Conservatorio di Musica "Luigi Cherubini," where she decided to study voice. A chance meeting with Peter Phillips, director of the Tallis Scholars, led her to England in 2012 to launch her singing career. However, she soon moved with her Argentinian husband to New Orleans, Louisiana, where he was a graduate student. Here, she began working with lutenist Stuart LeBlanc and with the Marigny Opera House. Since then, Musso has worked with the conductors Federico Maria Sardelli, Raffaele Puccianti, Fabio Lombardo, and others. She appeared with Federico Bardazzi and the Ensemble San Felice on their recording of Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine, released by the Brilliant label in 2016. Her first solo recording, Toutes les nuits, was released in 2017 and featured the music of several Renaissance and Baroque composers, including Giaches de Wert, Sigismondo d'India, and Barbara Strozzi. Musso regularly performs in Argentina, Italy, and the United States, and also researches and studies 17th century Sicilian music.
