Mari Eriksmoen

Soprano Mari Eriksmoen has a large repertory extending from Monteverdi to Wagner, featuring both opera and concert music. She regularly appears at major opera houses in Europe, North America, and South America. Eriksmoen was born on January 10, 1983, in Oslo. She studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Opera Academy in Copenhagen, Denmark, and then went on to the Conservatoire de Paris, where she studied with Isabelle Guillaud. By the time she finished her studies in 2010, Eriksmoen had scored strong showings as a finalist at the Queen Sonja International Competition in 2007 and at the Hans Gabor Belvedere Operetta Competition in Vienna in 2008. She made her debut in 2010 as Adele in Johann Strauss II's Die Fledermaus in Oslo and also performed at the opening gala of the city's Oslo Opera House. A breakthrough came that fall when Eriksmoen appeared as Zerbinetta in Richard Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna. Eriksmoen has made frequent return visits to that theater, and she has appeared around Europe at other major houses, including the Norwegian Opera, the Frankfurt Oper in Germany, and La Scala in Italy, as Waldvogel in Wagner's Siegfried as part of the Ring Cycle conducted there by Daniel Barenboim. In 2014, she appeared three times in the cycle of Mozart operas with libretti by Lorenzo da Ponte, conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt. After appearances on several vocal recordings, including one of Schumann's Szenen aus Goethes Faust, WoO 3, Eriksmoen made her solo recording debut in 2016, accompanied by pianist Alphonse Cemin, with a recital of songs by Grieg, Wolf, Strauss, and Agathe Backer-Grøndahl. In addition to opera, Eriksmoen has a flourishing concert career that has seen her perform with such groups as the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, and São Paulo Symphony Orchestra. In 2021, Eriksmoen released a pair of albums, G.F. Händel, W.A. Mozart: Arias & Overtures on the Challenge Classics label, and Britten: Les Illuminations; Quatre Chansons françaises; Canteloube: Chants d'Auvergne (Selections) on Chandos. In January of that year, she sang Mélisande in Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande at the Grand Théâtre de Genève.
