Grupo Marca Registrada

Grupo Marca Registrada ("group registered trademark") is a Regional Mexican ensemble from Culiacan, Sinaloa. Since 2014, the quartet has created a musically sophisticated version of norteño that is deeply rooted in tradition but makes use of modern vocal arrangements and smooth production. The single "La Vida Ruina" -- off their 2015 debut album of the same title -- featured a guest vocal from Ariel Camacho, securing national radio airplay and an industry foothold, which their work ethic ensured they'd maintain. Since then, they have released dozens of singles, albums, and videos garnering hundreds of millions of streams. Their popularity spread north of the border and further into Latin America with 2019's Luxury, 2022's breakthrough Haciendo Magia, and 2023's internationally charting, collaboration-rich Don't Stop the Magic. Originally formed in 2014 in Culiacán, Sinaloa by lead vocalist, songwriter, and accordionist Fidel Osvaldo Castro, the group developed its style by frequently changing members to find the right chemistry. In late 2015, they consolidated as a quartet featuring Castro, second vocalist and guitarist Ángel Mondragón, bassist Fidel Jiménez, and drummer Fernando Medina. They played cantinas, clubs, street parties, and festivals, showcasing their original material and innovating on traditional favorites. They established a strong internet following and, after a Del Records A&R man caught them live, they signed and delivered La Vida Ruina, their debut album, in 2015. A deluxe version included a second disc that featured the title track as a duet between Castro and Ariel Camacho; its appearance ensured track airplay and exposure, but surprised both the band and their label when it pushed the album onto the charts. The group hit the road and traveled across Mexico and Central America. They also played in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Nevada in the U.S. El Mismo de La Vida appeared in 2018. The 17-track set featured the single "Zutano" that charted at streaming in Mexico. Following a live album (En Vivo Desde a Culiacan) and a compilation (El Hit), they issued Magico El Sueño in October 2019. Its title-track single and "Chingon sin Chingar" charted across streaming platforms. In December, they surprised fans and industry professionals with Luxury, a collection of original corridos delivered in the band's now signature, polished style. Recorded at the beginning of 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic made the enormity of its presence felt, Grupo Marca Registrada issued Sigue La Magia Dando, with its smash Mexican radio single "El Commerciante." Unable to tour, they focused on recording. The 22-song On Fire appeared in October with the single "A Ti" becoming a chart success. 2021's Money fared far better thanks in large part to the single "El Doctor" charting in the upper rungs of the streaming charts with more than 250 million spins. A second single, "La Paso Bien," also landed on streaming charts. In 2022, the single "El Rescate," a collaboration with Junior H, made it to the U.S Top 20 on the Hot 100. They released the full-length Haciendo Magia the same year. It featured a hit cover of Shania Twain's "You're Still the One" as its opening cut. "Pasado Pisado," featuring guest Gerardo Ortiz, and "El Capitan," featuring Codigo FN, also landed on singles and streaming charts. "El Campeon," featuring Luis R Conriquez, was their final single in 2022 and a preview of the next year's forthcoming long-player. It landed on the Top Mexican Songs chart, receiving more than 200 million streams. Despite Marca Registrada's profile steadily rising since their 2015 debut, little prepared them for the commercial success of 2023's Don't Stop the Magic on the Interscope-distributed RB Records. Comprising ten tracks -- seven of them collaborations -- it was issued in May 2023 and offered a shift in sound. While the instrumentation remained organic and Castro's songs firmly fell under the norteño umbrella, the production changed -- it was smoother and offered more percussion and delicately detailed vocal harmonies that resembled pop. Second pre-release single "El Rescate," featuring Junior H, entered the Top 20 of the Hot 100 and went to eight on the Mexican Regional Songs list. It received nearly half-a-million streams. "Di Que Si," featuring Grupo Frontera, peaked at 11 on the same list and at number 89 on the general Hot 100. The full-length went to number seven on the Top Latin Albums and also landed in the Top 200.
