David Porcelijn

David Porcelijn is a Dutch flutist, conductor, and composer. A specialist in historically informed performance practices, he plays Baroque flute and conducts period-style ensembles as well as standard symphony orchestras. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague, and received a scholarship to study in Geneva. Among the orchestras he has conducted are the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the London Sinfonietta, the Bergen Symphony Orchestra, the SWR Baden Baden and Freiburg Symphony Orchestra, and several others. He has also promoted new music through his Ensemble M, and gave three concerts in 2003 with the New Ensemble of Amsterdam. His conducting career is international in scope, and he has developed a special relationship with orchestras in Australia, specifically the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. He has conducted the Nederlands Dans Theater, and since 2010 he has been the chief conductor of the South Jutland Symphony Orchestra in Denmark. Porcelijn has recorded extensively for CPO and ABC Classics.
