Call Super

Primarily known as Call Super, Joseph Richmond-Seaton receives acclaim for their inventive techno tracks and atmospheric, experimental full-lengths. First appearing with several curious, unconventional club records during the early 2010s, they branched out with the ambient techno full-length Suzi Ecto (2014), and expanded on this sound with the lush, organic Arpo in 2017. While they still produce intricate, hypnotic records designed for clubs, including singles with Beatrice Dillon and Parris, they explore uncharted terrain with abstract, sometimes jazzy albums such as Eulo Cramps (2023). Originally from London but based in Berlin, Richmond-Seaton crafts experimental dance music that is often smooth and lush yet also melancholy and tense, recalling numerous '90s Warp and second-wave Detroit techno artists but updated for the current underground dance scene. They debuted in 2011 with the Staircase EP on Five Easy Pieces, which was followed by No Episode on Throne of Blood (2012). They also remixed tracks by Mock & Toof, Dillon, and Renaissance Man. Call Super's 2013 EP The Present Tense was the inaugural release on Fabric's sister label Houndstooth. This was followed by the harder, electro-influenced 12"s Black Octagons and Depicta/Acephale II. They made their full-length debut with 2014's Suzi Ecto, which took Call Super's sound in a more free-form, less club-oriented direction than their singles and EPs. Also that year, they premiered the Ondo Fudd alias with an EP on the Trilogy Tapes called Coup d'État. As Call Super, they released Migrant (Houndstooth) and Fluenka Mitsu (Nous) in 2015. The year 2016 brought Nervous Sex Traffic (Dekmantel) and New Life Tones (Houndstooth). They also returned to the Trilogy Tapes for another Ondo Fudd EP, Blue Dot, as well as I'm Still Dizzy as Elmo Crumb. In 2017, Call Super's installment of Fabric's long-running mix CD series, Fabric 92, was issued. Inkjet, a 12" in collaboration with Beatrice Dillon, appeared on Hessle Audio. Call Super's sophomore full-length, Arpo, followed later that year. They then appeared on Shanti Celeste's Peach Discs with the 2019 single "All We Have Is Speed." Call Super and Parris collaborated for the two-song CANUFEELTHESUNONYRBACK, issued on an imprint of the same name (later shortened to Can You Feel the Sun). Solo full-length Every Mouth Teeth Missing appeared on Anthony Naples' Incienso label in 2020, and the producer released a second record with Parris, Design of a Body Sublime. Cherry Drops I and II, a pair of complex experimental techno EPs, appeared in 2021, and the exuberant Swallow Me followed in 2022. The ambitious full-length Eulo Cramps, featuring guest vocals from Julia Holter, Eden Samara, and Elke Wardlaw, was released by Can You Feel the Sun in 2023.
