Boy Jumps Ship

Comprising a heady mix of traditional heavy rock with a fresh new take on the post-hardcore sound, Boy Jumps Ship is a four-piece rock outfit hailing from Newcastle, U.K. Formed in 2010, the band came together after having been friends since their college days, each going on to dabble in various projects. When those projects came to an end, the four friends came together to start jamming and writing music, and Boy Jumps Ship was born. Made up of vocalist/guitarist Si Todd, guitarist Jonathan Douglas, bass guitarist Jonny Rob, and drummer Gav Gates, the group released a self-titled EP in 2011. They then began to cement their status on the local gig circuit, playing as much as they could. Relentless touring throughout the U.K. and Europe led the band to success; their exuberant, fast-paced performances, and energetic, bright yet heavy sound earned them comparisons to other rock acts such as Taking Back Sunday and Biffy Clyro. Boy Jumps Ship went on to release two more EPs -- Engines in 2011 and Be Good, Be Gracious in 2012. They continued to tour extensively, performing alongside acts such as Arcane Roots and Young Guns. The quartet eventually signed to Rude Records, releasing their first official single, "Still Alive," from their fourth EP, Lovers & Fighters, in 2014. After a lot of hard work on the road, they returned to the studio to begin writing and recording their first full-length, working with producer Larry Hibbins (Marmozets, Hundred Reasons). The group received help with a PRS for Music Foundation grant to put toward the album. This was a welcome opportunity for the boys as it allowed them to fully commit to their desire for independent creative input. At the tail-end of 2015, they signed to Amazing Record Co. and in early 2016, released their full-length debut, Wake Up, to widespread acclaim. Composed of slick, fiery guitar riffs, pummeling percussion, and huge choruses, the album's lead single, "Burn," was tipped for more success from the likes of Kerrang! Magazine and the BBC Radio One Rock Show.
