Alessio Bax

Alessio Bax is an Italian pianist who lives in the United States. After completing studies at the Bari Conservatory at age 14, Bax went on to win several major competitions, including the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition and the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition. He resumed his musical studies at Southern Methodist University in Texas, and subsequently joined the faculty of the Meadows School of the Arts. Bax has appeared with many orchestras around the world, including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Hungarian Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, and the Tokyo Symphony, among others, and he has performed with conductors Marin Alsop, Matthias Bamert, Jonathan Nott, Vernon Handley, Yuri Temirkanov, and Simon Rattle. In chamber music, Bax was a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s CMS Two, and he has performed with Joshua Bell, Steven Isserlis, Andrés Diaz, and Nobuko Imai. As a solo recitalist, Bax has traveled to London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, New York, Washington, and Mexico City. He resides in New York with his wife, Canadian pianist Lucille Chung, and they have performed many times as a duo. Together, they are artistic co-directors of the Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation in Dallas. Bax maintains a blog, Have Piano, Will Travel, where he writes about food and music. He has recorded for Signum Classics, Warner Classics, and Dynamic Records.
