Suite à l'annonce de la mise en pause de la carrière discographique de Keane en 2013, Tom Chaplin, son chanteur et leader s'attelle à l'écriture de matériau destiné à un projet solo. Armé d'une quarantaine d'ébauches, le britannique s'installe à Los Angeles pour enregistrer Wave, son premier album solo constitué de 11 titres évoluant en territoires pop-rock et sensiblement plus apaisés que les travaux de Keane parmi lesquels le single "Quicksand".
