Entre 1941 et 1947, Lead Belly a enregistré avec Folkways Records certaines des compositions les plus importantes de l’histoire de la musique américaine. Virtuose de la guitare à 12 cordes et doté d’une voix puissante, le musicien originaire de la Louisiane a su, malgré une courte carrière, laisser une empreinte indélébile dans le monde du blues et de la folk. Cette anthologie, compilée et produite par Jeff Place et Robert Santelli, regroupe plus d’une centaine de titres qui ont fait de Lead Belly l’un des artistes les plus influents de sa génération, ayant été repris par de nombreux artistes venus de toutes horizons (Nirvana, Beach Boys, Elvis Presley, Abba…). © LG/Qobuz
