L'oeuvre Romulus d'Alexandre Dumas père, qui raconte une histoire de paternité sur fond d'intrigue politique dans le Tyrol autrichien, sert de base à l'opéra-comique du même titre composé par Louis Karchin. Louis Karchin, musicien américain né en 1951, est l'un des plus brillants compositeurs d'opéra de sa génération, influencé par Strauss et Wagner. Il dirige lui-même l'enregistrement de cette partition vivement théâtrale et pleine de surprises.
