Paru durant l’été 1996, ce deuxième album solo de Jason Falkner reste encore aujourd’hui un sommet de la power pop américaine des années 90. L’ex-membre des Three O'Clock, de Jellyfish et des Grays (auteur du cultissime Ro Sham Bo) impressionne car aux commandes de TOUT le disque : écriture, production, chant et jeu, le tour de force est bluffant ! Mais c’est évidemment le résultat qui compte, et peu importe de savoir si Falkner a fait tout ça les yeux bandés, une main attachée derrière le dos… Et ce résultat offre surtout des pop songs merveilleuses, ciselées à l’or fin. Refrains imparables, mélodies à tiroirs, guitares claires mais nerveuses, chœurs envoûtants, rien ne manque à l’appel de ce pur chef d’œuvre de simplicité qui lorgne aussi bien vers XTC que les Hollies et dont les chansons occupent puissamment les neurones… © MZ/Qobuz
