Roger Doyle

A former jazz-rock drummer, Roger Doyle has made his greatest impression as a composer of electronic music and musique concrete. The recipient of a programmed music award at the 1997 Bouges International Electro-acoustic Music Competition, Doyle scored his greatest triumph with his magnum opus, Babel, which premiered at the Irish Museum Of Modern Art in 1992. The ninety-three individual pieces that comprise, Babel, took ten years to compose and required input from forty-eight collaborators. A five CD box set of Babel, was released on Doyle's fiftieth birthday in 1999. A native of Dublin, Doyle studied composition at the Royal Academy of Music, the Institute of Sonology at the University of Utrecht and the Finnish Radio Experimental Music Studio. He has served residencies at the University of Washington in Seattle, the Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta, Canada and the Royal Conservatory of Music in the Hague. Doyle's score for the Steven Berkoff-direction production, Salome, was released on CD in 2000. Two years later, he provided the score of a film, Budawanny.
