Sentant sans doute que le vent pouvait potentiellement tourner en sa défaveur après l’échec commercial (certes relatif mais bon…) d’ARTPOP, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta alias Lady GaGa a décidé de changer son fusil d’épaule. Avec Joanne, la pop star fraichement trentenaire a mis au placard tous les artifices auxquels elle avait habitué ses fans pour offrir simplicité et sobriété. Il y a de la pop évidemment mais aussi de la soul voire de la country dans ce cinquième album qui met surtout en avant sa voix. A l’arrivée, voilà l’exact opposé du très électro ARTPOP ! Ce retour à plus de naturel et de sincérité donne une œuvre profonde, plus puissante et dont les mélodies marquent les esprits. Un changement de cap réalisé grâce au producteur Mark Ronson qui lui a ici conçu l’écrin rêvé de ses songes apaisés. Un duo avec Florence Welch de Florence + The Machine (Hey Girl) et des chansons conçues avec Kevin Parker de Tame Impala (Perfect Illusion), Josh Homme de Queens Of The Stone Age (Diamond Heart), Beck (Dancin' In Circles) ou bien encore Josh Tillman (Sinner's Praye): aucun doute, GaGa sait s’entourer de gens de goût.
