Au XVIIIe siècle, les arrangements d’airs d’opéras pour divers instruments, à l’usage des musiciens domestiques, sont foison. En 1717, l’éditeur londonien Walsh publie un recueil dans lequel figurent, entre autres, de telles adaptations d’opéras de Haendel, dont quelques-unes ont ici été reprises par l’ensemble L’Ornamento. Adaptations encore, d’œuvres instrumentales initialement destinées à tel ou tel effectif, que l’on transpose et modifie pour les confier à ce dont on dispose à l’instant présent ! Bach lui-même l’a fait avec des concertos de Vivaldi, c’est dire si le principe a depuis longtemps gagné ses lettres de noblesse. L’effectif variable de L’Ornamento lui permet de nous offrir des partitions aux instrumentations les plus variées, même si la flûte à bec trône en première place, en particulier dans les arrangements des airs de Haendel, dont les solos sont tous transcrits pour ce digne instrument. Vous pourrez assister à un concert « familial », « domestique », comme si vous étiez en 1720 – les virtuoses de L’Ornamento jouent peut-être même mieux que les amateurs de l’époque. © SM/Qobuz
