Paru en 1962, Hallelujah I Love Her So ! est en fait la réédition du tout premier album de Ray Charles publié par le label Atlantic en 1957 et à l’époque sobrement intitulé Ray Charles. La plupart des chansons ont été des tubes les années précédentes pour le songwriter de Géorgie : Mess Around en 1953, A Fool For You et I Got A Woman en 1955, Drown In My Own Tears, Lonely Avenue et Hallelujah I Love Her So en 1956. Une succession de hits qui sculptent la personnalité musicale de ce génie. Produit par Jerry Wexler, le disque est surtout une entrée fracassante pour un des plus grands musiciens du XXe siècle qui touche ici un large public. Même dans ses reprises comme sur Sinner’s Prayer de Lowell Fulson, Ray Charles s’approprie tout ce qu’il touche.
