Decca

Le nom "Decca" date d'un phonographe portable appelé le "Decca Dulcephone", breveté en 1914 par des fabricants d'instrument de musique, Barnett Samuel and Sons. Inventé par Wilfred S. Samuel, il est le résultat de la fusion du mot "Mecca" avec l'initiale D de "Dulcephone". La société, rebaptisée « The Decca Gramophone Company » - connue aussi sous le nom de « The Supreme Record Company » - fut rachetée en 1929 par un ancien agent de change, Edward Lewis. En 1939, Decca était la seule maison de disques du Royaume-Uni excepté EMI : elle deviendra en quelques années le deuxième label mondial, comptant à son catalogue, dans les années 30-40, des signatures devenues légen...
