En 1780, la capitainerie des Gardes civils de Hambourg passa commande au Directeur de la musique de la ville, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (successeur de Telemann au prestigieux poste en 1768) d’un oratorio et une sérénade pour égayer en musique sa fête annuelle : l’oratorio, édifiant comme il se doit, pour le midi, la sérénade étant réservée pour le soir. Le présent enregistrement propose les deux ouvrages, tels que donnés le 7 septembre 1780, en première discographique. On y découvre un fiston Bach totalement indépendant de l’ombre tutélaire de son père, et bien en prise avec son temps, même si le ton festif peut parfois évoquer parfois les réjouissances d’époques passées, mais Haydn et Mozart sont dans les parages et cela se sent. Dans l’oratorio, l’esprit sacré garde ses droits (même si la légèreté reste de mise, c’est une fête qui durera toute la journée, que diable : on passera donc par l’allégorie), tandis que dans la sérénade, chœurs réjouissants alternent avec des arias, duos et trios des plus enlevés. Décidément, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach a plus d’un tout dans son sac et il n’est pas vain de réévaluer son œuvre de fond en comble, ainsi que nous y invite ici l’ensemble Barockwerk Hamburg. © SM/Qobuz
