Philharmonie Festiva

Formed by conductor Gerd Schaller, the Philharmonie Festiva made its debut in 2008 at Franconia, Germany's Ebrach Summer Music Festival, an annual event that Schaller initiated in 1990. The orchestra grew from a core ensemble consisting of members of the Munich Bach Soloists, and Schaller increased the orchestra's size by recruiting musicians for large-scale performances. The orchestra found a niche in the market with its recordings of the complete symphonies of Anton Bruckner, notably including Schaller's own completion of the Symphony No. 9 in 2016. The Philharmonie Festiva has performed concerts and made recordings in the Kaisersaal of the Cistercian Abbey in Ebrach, and it has also performed in the Max Littmann Hall of the Regentenbau Concert Hall in the town of Bad Kissingen, Bavaria, as well as at the Joseph Keilberth Hall in the Bamberg Concert Hall. In addition to Bruckner's symphonic cycle, Schaller and the Philharmonie Festiva perform neglected repertoire, having revived Karl Goldmark's opera Merlin and Johann Ritter von Herbeck's Great Mass in E minor. The Philharmonie Festiva has appeared on the television channel Bayerisches Fernsehen and recorded at the Bayerische Rundfunk's Studio Franken, issuing recordings on the Profil label.
