Daniel Brandt
Daniel Brandt first became known as a founding member of electro-acoustic ensemble Brandt Brauer Frick before pursuing a solo career. Born in Wiesbaden, Germany he went on to study at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, and graduated from the film/television department in 2011. Before graduating Brandt began performing with Jan Brauer and Paul Frick to form what would eventually become Brandt Brauer Frick. The electronic ensemble went on to release their debut album, You Make Me Real, in 2010, describing what they produced as "emotional body music." The trio, whose music was pitched somewhere between orchestral and dance, went on to play at both classical concert halls and pop festivals, including the Southbank Centre, Centre Pompidou, Coachella, and Glastonbury. In addition to his musical career, Brandt was also pursuing film projects with the Park Bennett collective, where he directed videos and live visual experiences for media outlets like the BBC, Vice, MTV, and The Guardian. Meanwhile he was also co-running the Gym label, which specialized in releasing the electronic music of artists like Max Graef, Emika, and Nina Kravitz. Brandt Bauer Frick released their fourth album, Joy, in 2016 and the following year Brandt joined London's Erased Tapes label for what would be his debut solo outing. Initially he began with the proviso that it would be a record made entirely with cymbals, but his ideas were too expansive for such limitations. Aside from trombone, hang drum, and cello, Brandt played every instrument on Eternal Something, and the resulting record explored and expanded the confluence of electro and acoustic instrumentation he had begun with Brandt Bauer Frick.
