Decca

Der Name „ Decca“ kommt von einem tragbaren Grammophon namens „Decca Dulcephone“ und wurde 1914 von dem Musikinstrument-Fabrikanten Barnett Samuel and Sons patentiert. Wilfred S. Samuel hat den Namen, der eine Fusion des Wortes „Mecca“ mit der Initiale D von „Dulcephone“ darstellt, erfunden. Die Firma, später umbenannt in „The Decca Gramophone Company“ und ebenfalls unter dem Namen „The Supreme Record Company“ bekannt, wird 1929 von dem ehemaligen Börsenmakler Edward Lewis gekauft. 1939 ist Decca neben EMI die einzige Plattenfirma Großbritanniens. Innerhalb weniger Jahre wird sie zum zweitgrößten Label der Welt und zählt in den 30er bis 40er Jahren zu ihrem Katalog...
