Matthias Roth
Dividing his time between being a concert artist and a piano teacher, Matthias Roth has discovered his love for all things connected to the piano. He was born in 1979 in Wildhaus in Toggenburg, Switzerland, and he began taking piano lessons while he attended primary school. His first piano teacher was Katharina Giordanengo, and he studied with her at the music school in Toggenburg and the Kantonsschule Zürcher Oberland in Wattwil. Roth later studied at the Zurich University of the Arts with Hadassa Schwimmer and Karl-Andreas Kolly, earning his teaching and concert diplomas with honors and winning the Landolt Prize. Roth teaches piano at the Kantonsschule Zürcher Oberland and resides with his family in Zurich. He has made the piano music of the turn of the 20th century a touchstone in his career, and his 2018 album on Genuin, Miroirs, showcased works of Szymanowski and Ravel.
