Jake Isaac
Singer and songwriter Jake Isaac merges influences including classic pop and soul as well as folk and worship music into his tuneful, heartfelt songs. Following a handful of self-produced EPs beginning with 2012's Hearts & Parables, he made his full-length debut with Our Lives in 2017, before delivering two more albums, 2021's Honesty and 2023's For When It Hurts.
Born and raised in South London, Isaac started playing drums as a toddler, eventually adding piano and bass guitar to his repertoire. As the son of a reverend, worship music was a large presence in his childhood. He was teaching drums by the age of 16 and by his late teens he was finding part-time work as a session musician and songwriter for the likes of Duffy, Natalie Imbruglia, and Cynthia Erivo.
Isaac soon began writing music for himself and self-released his first EP, Hearts & Parables, in 2012. He became a regular on the live circuit, and 2013 saw the release of the live EP Back to You. Meanwhile, he continued to work behind the scenes with musicians including British soul star Gabrielle. His second studio EP, War Child, appeared in 2014. Support slots with Ella Eyre and Joan as Police Woman were followed by his first major festival appearance, opening The Other Stage at the Glastonbury Festival. He caught the attention of Elton John, who signed Isaac to his Rocket Record Company and issued his EP Where We Belong in 2015. Isaac went on to tour internationally in support of Paloma Faith, Ella Eyre, and Angus and Julia Stone, as well as Elton John himself in addition to headlining dates.
Returning to the studio in 2016, Isaac delivered his first full-length, Our Lives, in 2017 on Island Records and Virgin EMI. After moving to AntiFragile Music, he returned with the EP Things I'll Tell You Tomorrow in 2020. He delivered his sophomore album, Honesty, in 2021. Originally penned in the first few weeks of the COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020, the album saw him teaming up with the Wildwood Kin, Tertia May, and India.Arie for a more stripped-back selection of songs. Following a successful tour of the U.K. in 2022, Isaac returned to the studio for his third album. Utilizing his emotive storytelling, the first fruits of the album -- the emotionally charged single "Start Again" and the laid-back acoustic funk and soul of "Still Have You" -- preceded its release. For When It Hurts was issued on Oil+Water in early 2023.
