Quand on est une institution comme Paul Simon, que l’on n’a strictement plus rien à prouver, reste juste à se faire plaisir. C’est sans doute ce qu’a voulu faire l’ancien complice d’Art Garfunkel en enregistrant ce copieux (deux heures !) live à Hyde Park enregistré dans la capitale britannique le 15 juillet 2012 à l’occasion du Hard Rock Calling Festival. Comme souvent dans ce genre de situation lorsque l’intéressé possède une œuvre et une discographie XXL, l’enregistrement fait office de best of. Et c’est effectivement le cas. Tous les tubes de Paul Simon défilent ici dans des versions assez vigoureuses. Un concert qui a le mérite de réunir à nouveau Hugh Masekela et Ladysmith Black Mambazo présents sur l’album Graceland, mais aussi le grand Jimmy Cliff en invité. Carrière solo (Kodachrome, Graceland, Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard, 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover) ou période Simon & Garfunkel (The Boxer), rien ne manque à l’appel de cette prestation de premier ordre. © CM/Qobuz
