Mit dem passend betitelten Album Standards, seinem zehnten Studioalbum, besteigt er den Mount Everest der großen Klassiker des Jazz und des Swing. Seit bereits drei Jahrzehnten muss der Brite, was seine Soulstimme angeht, niemanden mehr etwas beweisen. Aber diese erfreuliche Exkursion mit leichtem Retrobeigeschmack beweist doch noch einmal auf überraschende Art mehr, dass sein kraftvolles und sinnliches Gesangsorgan jedes Repertoire beherrscht. In wesentlichen Teilen in den berühmten Capitol Studios in Los Angeles aufgenommen, dort, wo bereits Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat „King“ Cole und viele andere Musiker einige ihrer größten Platten aufgenommen haben, entstand Standards mit der Hilfe von genau diesen Musikern, die auch diesen großen Stimmen unter die Arme gegriffen haben. So finden wir hier den Pianisten Randy Waldman (Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka), den Bassisten Chuck Berghofer (Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles) oder auch den Schlagzeuger Greg Fields (Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder). Sie alle werden von Seal vereint, um uns seine Versionen von Klassikern wie Autumn Leaves, I Put A Spell On You, Love For Sale, My Funny Valentine, I've Got You Under My Skin, Smile, I'm Beginning To See The Light oder auch Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow zu präsentieren. „So ein Album wollte ich schon immer machen“, erklärt der Sänger. „Ich bin mit der Musik des Rat Packs aufgewachsen und ich habe immer davon geträumt, diese zeitlosen Lieder aufzunehmen. Mit den Musikern zusammenzuarbeiten, die Frank Sinatra und so viele andere meiner Lieblingskünstler begleitet haben, und dann auch noch in den Studios, in denen die Magie anfing, stellt eine wahre Ehre für mich dar. Seal unterstellt sich hier der ultimativen Feuerprobe. Eine gute Möglichkeit, sich an seinen Kollegen von vergangenen wie aktuellen Zeiten zu messen. Mit dem passend betitelten Album Standards, seinem zehnten Studioalbum, besteigt er den Mount Everest der großen Klassiker des Jazz und des Swing. Seit bereits drei Jahrzehnten muss der Brite, was seine Soulstimme angeht, niemanden mehr etwas beweisen. Aber diese erfreuliche Exkursion mit leichtem Retrobeigeschmack beweist doch noch einmal auf überraschende Art mehr, dass sein kraftvolles und sinnliches Gesangsorgan jedes Repertoire beherrscht. In wesentlichen Teilen in den berühmten Capitol Studios in Los Angeles aufgenommen, dort, wo bereits Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat „King“ Cole und viele andere Musiker einige ihrer größten Platten aufgenommen haben, entstand Standards mit der Hilfe von genau diesen Musikern, die auch diesen großen Stimmen unter die Arme gegriffen haben. So finden wir hier den Pianisten Randy Waldman (Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka), den Bassisten Chuck Berghofer (Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles) oder auch den Schlagzeuger Greg Fields (Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder). Sie alle werden von Seal vereint, um uns seine Versionen von Klassikern wie Autumn Leaves, I Put A Spell On You, Love For Sale, My Funny Valentine, I've Got You Under My Skin, Smile, I'm Beginning To See The Light oder auch Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow zu präsentieren. „So ein Album wollte ich schon immer machen“, erklärt der Sänger. „Ich bin mit der Musik des Rat Packs aufgewachsen und ich habe immer davon geträumt, diese zeitlosen Lieder aufzunehmen. Mit den Musikern zusammenzuarbeiten, die Frank Sinatra und so viele andere meiner Lieblingskünstler begleitet haben, und dann auch noch in den Studios, in denen die Magie anfing, stellt eine wahre Ehre für mich dar.
