The remaster of Hector Lavoe's 1992 album REVENTO improves on what was already a solid album in the classic New York salsa style. With its improved sound, the percolating percussion sounds crisper than ever, and so do Lavoe's seemingly effortless vocals. While Lavoe is generally associated with salsa's 1970s heyday, his output in the decades thereafter was remarkably consistent, and REVENTO is no exception. With one foot in the old world of Puerto Rican son, and another in the bustle New York's Latin community, Lavoe's music sounds timeless. This effort can't fail to send hips into sinuous gyrations.
